Wamego Homes, Wamego Concrete
Wamego is a river city of about 4,800 people, and homeowners here want concrete contractors who give a front walk or backyard patio the same care as a big pour. The Kansas River runs along the southern edge of town, U.S. 24 and K-99 cross in the middle, and Manhattan is about 14 miles to the west. We cover Wamego for driveways, patios, stamped concrete, steps, shed and garage slabs, and repair work.
A town that added people over the last decade
Wamego was platted in 1866 and incorporated in 1869. The 2010 census counted 4,372 residents. By 2020 that number was 4,841, an increase of more than 10 percent, and the city had 2,051 housing units with a vacancy rate of just 5.8 percent. Low vacancy means most homes are lived in and used every day, and that daily use shows up first on driveways and walks.
The housing here ranges widely. Houses near the original 1866 town grid tend to be the oldest, and that is where to expect narrow single-car drives, root-lifted walks and steps poured decades ago. Newer homes on the edges of town tend to need add-ons: a patio, a side pad for a trailer, or a wider approach so two cars can park side by side.
What we look at on a Wamego lot
Distance from the river. With the Kansas River on the south side of town, lower lots can stay damp longer after heavy rain. Damp clay is weak under a slab, so we excavate deeper where needed and build a compacted gravel base that drains.
Old concrete under the new. Many older properties have layers of past repairs. We break out the old material fully rather than pouring a thin topping over it, because a thin overlay on a failing slab will crack along the same lines.
Trees. Mature shade trees are part of what makes older Wamego streets pleasant, but their roots lift walks and driveways. When we replace a lifted section we talk through root barriers or rerouting the walk slightly.
Grade and drainage. Every slab should fall away from the house. If an old patio pitches toward the foundation, replacing it is the moment to fix that.
Stamped concrete for a town that likes a good look
Wamego's City Park is 12 acres and holds the stone Dutch Mill, built in 1879, along with the Wamego Historical Museum and Prairie Town Village. The OZ Museum, which opened in April 2004, draws visitors downtown. In a town that takes pride in its landmarks, plenty of homeowners want outdoor space that looks finished.
Stamped concrete is a good answer. We can press patterns like ashlar slate, random stone or brick into a fresh slab and add color to the mix and a release color on top for depth. A stamped patio needs a sealer to keep the color strong and should be resealed every few years. In freeze-thaw country we keep stamped surfaces air-entrained like any other exterior concrete, and we can add a slip-resistant additive to the sealer for areas around steps.

Wamego Questions
Is stamped concrete a good fit for a Wamego patio?
Yes, as long as it is air-entrained and sealed. Plan on resealing every few years to keep the color and protect the surface from freeze-thaw damage.
Can you fix a Wamego sidewalk that a tree root lifted?
We cut out the raised section and repour it. Depending on the tree, we may suggest a root barrier or a small reroute so the problem does not return quickly.
Do you come out to Wamego for small jobs like a set of steps?
Yes. Steps and short walk repairs are common requests, and we give the same written estimate for those as for a full driveway.
